The 10th Kingdom
''The 10th Kingdom'' is an American fairytale fantasy miniseries written by Simon Moore and produced by Britain's Carnival Films, Germany's Babelsberg Film und Fernsehen, and the USA's Hallmark Entertainment. It depicts the adventures of a young woman and her father after they are transported from New York City, through a magical mirror into a parallel world of fairy tales.
The miniseries was initially broadcast over five nights in two-hour episodes on NBC, beginning February 27, 2000. It won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design in 2000.
==Plot==
In a hidden realm, fairy tale characters inhabit nine magical kingdoms where an Evil Queen plots to rule them. She is trapped in the Fourth Kingdom Prison under the rule of Prince Wendell, the arrogant grandson of Snow White. Weeks before his coronation, the Queen enlists the help of a Troll King and his three children to release her. Thereafter Prince Wendell is captured by the Evil Queen, who turns him into a Golden Retriever while her own Retriever is transformed into Wendell. The transformed Prince stumbles across a traveling mirror in the basement and is transported to New York City. The Troll King orders his children Burly, Blabberwort, and Bluebell to bring back the escaped Prince while the Queen releases a half-wolf prisoner (simply called Wolf) to retrieve him instead.
In Manhattan, headstrong waitress Virginia Lewis and her oafish father Tony encounter mishaps caused by the new arrivals: including Wolf falling in love with Virginia and Tony being given six wishes (which he foolishly uses for personal gain, to no avail), of which he uses the last to wish for the ability to understand the dog, who urges them to travel to the Nine Kingdoms with him, to restore his true form; whereupon Virginia and Tony are taken through the magic mirror to Wendell's world. At first, Tony and Virginia are taken from place to place around the Kingdoms: cleared out of the prison, taken as a prize for a sheep-rearing contest, and sold in an auction. The group travel the lands in pursuit of the mirror, facing many dangers and challenges in the process. During their journey, Wolf sides with them, and the Queen sends her Huntsman to capture the Prince, Virginia, and Tony. Virginia eventually meets the ghost of Snow White, who reveals she is destined to save the Nine Kingdoms. Tony also recognizes the Queen as Virginia’s mother. The Queen has her imposter Prince Wendell crowned king and tries to poison all the monarchs who attend the ceremony; but Wolf switches the poison for a sleeping potion, and everyone escapes unharmed. Virginia reluctantly kills the Queen while Tony defeats the trolls. The real Prince Wendell takes the throne, pardons the trolls, and gives Tony a job at the palace, while Virginia returns, with Wolf, to New York City.
